With so many options, what is the best mattress for lower back pain? If you read my most recent article on the best ways to sleep to reduce back pain, you would have read about how vital your mattress is. It makes sense. We spend at least 33% of our lives on our mattress (if we are getting 8 hours). Sleep is remarkably vital to so many aspects of our lives and has an enormous impact on how much pain we wake up in.

Sleep Like a Bear – Wake up Like Goldilocks

To get right to the point of this article, it is my opinion that the Bear Mattress is the best mattress for lower back pain. I’ll get into many of the details below, or you can go right to the source and check them out – Bear Mattress U.S.A.
best mattress for lower back pain
Remember when we were young, and we could sleep on just about anything? If you’re reading this, it’s likely that those days are over. During our younger years, the cartilage between our joints and holding our vertebral discs together were thick and moist. As we’ve aged, the wear and tear on our cartilage wore thin, which was made worse by muscle imbalances caused by poor posture, hard work, and the wrong mattress.

Your Bed Should Not be Too Soft, Not Too Hard, But Just Right

There is some research that suggests that a medium-firm mattress is the best for low back pain. One study gave out either medium-firm or firm mattresses to its participants, and at the end, the medium-firm group had the least pain. The Bear Mattress is this mattress and more. It is the bed that Goldilocks would choose, not too soft, not too hard, but just right. On a firmness scale of 1-10, I’d give this mattress a six for its medium-firmness.

Mattress Age

How old is your bed? The average age is about nine and a half years! The age of your mattress is a big factor in how well you sleep, as well as how much pain you woke up with. Oklahoma State University researchers gave participants a random new bed to sleep on for 28 days. Everyone in the study reported having slept better, no matter the mattress type. Any new replacement mattress is probably better than what you are sleeping on now.

That being said, those who slept in the cheapest, softest, and firmest beds reported waking up with lower back pain. These reports were dramatically fewer from those who slept on medium-firm, mid-priced mattresses.

Bear Mattress is a great value compared to the same type of mattress that you get from a store. In my experience, it costs less than half what a comparable bed would cost. Bear Mattresses are right up there with what you’d sleep on in a luxury hotel. In fact, hotels are taking notice and replacing their mattresses with the Bear brand!

Bear Mattress Specifics

Bear has two types of beds, the Hybrid (the one I recommend for low back pain) and their original memory foam mattress. Both are very good for all types of sleepers, but for the purpose of the best support for low back pain, I recommend the Hybrid. Here are the specifics:

  • 14 inches thick.
  • Five layers deep.
  • o Plush two inch hand-tufted top with cooling gel foam quilted in.
  • o Two inches of serene foam.
  • o One inch responsive foam.
  • o Individually encased 8-inch quantum coils.
  • o One inch high-density support foam

Bear uses only premium foams, and the serene foam layer represents the newest technology. The foam is patented and provides four times more pressure relief around the hips and back especially. Another technological advance is that the foam is temperature neutral, meaning that your bed won’t turn into a furnace, like traditional memory foam. The mattress sleeps a full 28 percent cooler, as a matter of fact!

The individually encased 8-inch quantum coils (say that a few times fast) serve to enhance support all the way to the edge of the mattress. This means that every centimeter of the bed will provide a supportive sleep surface. This works great if you have a partner and several dogs that like to push you to the edge of the bed throughout the night! Speaking of sleeping companions, there is very little motion transfer, so you hardly notice them tossing about.

Basically, the Bear Hybrid Mattress offers impressive comfort and support, but with that nice touch of a bounce that feels like falling asleep on a cloud. I’m not the only one talking about this mattress. These sites also love it:

Bottom Line – I Can’t Recommend Bear Mattress Enough

The Bear Hybrid is a premium mattress that combines the best of both coils and foams to provide unparalleled support. The five layers all work together to provide cooling, pressure-relief, and comfort. It took me three tries before finding a mattress that was ‘just right,’ and I don’t want you to have to do the same. Say adios to aching hips and a stiff, creaky back.

The beds are made in the U.S.A. and come with a 100-night trial. If it doesn’t suit you, they will come to pick it up free of charge, and without any hassle. The mattresses are priced right and come with 0% financing if you need it.

What is the best mattress for lower back pain? The Bear Hybrid Mattress is!
